A Little History...

I'm an art director / illustrator and love a challenge. Several years ago, I had an assignment to scan and "colorize" some existing line art. The client actually wanted the art to be repainted! With a short deadline, and knowing they didn't want slick stripped in color, I tried a new technique.

I created ten watercolor textures, scanned them and dropped them into the original line art. With some additional manipulation in Photoshop, I created the rich look the job required. I was impressed, and so was the client.

Knowing I'd use this technique again and again, I continued to create additional backgrounds. With the help of my wife Maggie Swanson, who is also an illustrator, we created ninety diverse watercolors and months later Watercolor Backgrounds™ for Photoshop was born.
